This is the ubuntu logo that I first seen, yes this logo has been used for 6 years .
I am not quite interested to the typography on this logo. I just love the icon that just simply describing how ubuntu work and looks like.
In my opinion, compared to other linux distribution logos, only several logos that are well designed. One of them is this logo above.
And then, here’s come lucid lynx .
Ubuntu has been struggling in open source industry with the humanity philosophy they brought along. The way I see it, they struggle by creating a very-very neat and eye catchy user interface. Making an easier approach to linux for some people. But some linux hardcore user often making joke on this. Some of them are just not getting the idea about linux for desktop. However, if ubuntu never come with GNOME environment, I probably won’t us it until now.
I just loved the way GNOME are, and I don’t know why some people keep changing their GNOME desktop environment look similiar as in windows OS. But hey, I am a mac wannabe,Ā I tried to mod my desktop environment so that I can feel the elegance of OS X leopard. But then, I just come up with less feel of OS X leopard and better looking for my GNOME Desktop! š
Here’s my current desktop looks like:

Well, there you go, can you see the new ubuntu logo on my wallpaper?
The first time I see this logo, I just thrilled.. they won’t change their logo without changing the other stuff, won’t they? And yes, you can sneak and peek to some of proposed theme for lucid lynx. They are just marvelous, not mac look, but marvelous. And hey, they are leaving the brown! š They will come up with more elegance dark purple colors.
And here, I have some work I done for the wallpaper as you can see on my desktop.

Here’s the svg I’ve manually traced using
:

cool trace! care to explain how you got that resulting svg? with path -> trace bitmap ??
Thanks, merbit. š I did the svg by manually tracing it, wich means with path. I tried the trace bitmap. But I couldn’t get the optimum result. Anyway, there’s a bit flaw on the SVG I did. Maybe you can help to fix that, you can open it using inkscape. š
” I can’t make the OS X looks. Can you give me a how-to tips? š ”
Yes ! Yous can use Docky instead of GNOME Do’s dock (Docky is a fork of it) and replace the Menu Bar by the Main Menu and Global Menu.
You can also use the Lights themes of Lucid, they will put your buttons on the left side.
I’ve taken a screenshot of how it look on my desktop but my FTP server at free.fr don’t work… but I did screenshots yesterday.

Im using cairo dock now, it does more smooth rendering when hovering the icons. more important, ,some theme allow cairo dock to does the stack sub icons, just like in mac. I’ve tried Docky. But I didn’t know the Global menu things should use Docky. And Ive been searching for themes that put the window buttons on the left side! So, thank you, kekun! š
